Trade the Indoors For the Outdoors: Backyard Edition

Ok, we’re all getting just a little stir crazy in our homes, so good thing the weather is improving, and we can head outside. Here are a few activities you and the kids can do to pep up your spirits and have some fun in the sun.

  1. Garden Variety. If you always think how educational (and delicious) it would be to have an herb garden, this is the year. The Tasteful Garden has a beginner’s guide that will help you with all the details. Kids will love to get their hands dirty and adults will love having herbs for cooking. It’s a win-win.
  2. Scavenger Hunt! Make a list of things for the kids to find right in the backyard, like, four different leaves, three colors, four rocks, five different shapes. Depending on your yard, the potential for fun here is endless.
  3. Catch, Kick, Hit. Are you game? Play catch, kick the soccer ball around, or how about whiffle ball, baseball or badminton. Break out the horseshoes, frisbee, croquet or ring toss. For those with a DIY streak, build a regulation cornhole set. Here are the directions from DIY Network.. Have a ball!
  4. Wash the Car. This is a twofer. It will keep the clan occupied, while getting your car gussied up for free!
  5. More S’mores. Fire up the grill or fire pit, get out the fixings and follow this classic S’more recipe from the Food Network for a gooey treat al fresco.

It’s a challenge to spend all your time in the house. Getting the family moving around in the fresh air will help improve perspective and perk up everybody’s mood.
