No, we don’t mean Oscar the Grouch but we are sure you can think of someone in your life who could use a bit of cheer to turn their frown upside down. What better time to brighten their day than on Do A Grouch A Favor Day on February 16th, right in the middle of Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Week! For those of you who don’t know what RAK Week is, from February 14-20th people around the world are encouraged to spread kindness around them. We have a few ideas for you to try here.
One of the best ways to connect with someone is by asking them about their day, and truly listening to them- odds are if they are a true “grouch”, there will be several topics to discuss. Once they have finished, decide if they simply need to vent or if they want a solution and then, act accordingly. Most times, simply letting the person know you hear them goes a long way. Or, if you have the capacity to help with their issue, that goes even farther!
If you aren’t close enough to this person to feel comfortable with offering your help, that’s totally fine! There are small acts of kindness you can offer such as buying them a cup of coffee, or writing them a thoughtful note (it can be anonymous) to leave on their desk or in their mailbox.
Kindness comes in all shapes and sizes. It doesn’t need to be expensive or time consuming, just thoughtful. You may not make their day better, but getting into the habit of helping others will bring positive effect to your own life. Who knows, over time that “grouch” may change their ways too.
