A warm smile is the universal language of kindness.

Kindness is contagious and doesn’t cost a thing.

BYOL—Bring Your Own Lunch Day

March 10th is National Pack Your Lunch Day. Even though bringing your lunch takes time and planning, there are so many benefits for you and the environment! It gives you a chance to say no to tempting treats, spending money and extra waste.

Ingredient Information

You can never be 100% sure what restaurants include as ingredients into their dishes. This can include questionable sourcing, chemicals, preservatives as well as extra calorie add-ins. By purchasing your own ingredients at the grocery store, you can keep an eye on what each item contains and when you make your lunch, you control the portion.

Super Savings

Purchasing and preparing your own food is far more cost effective than ordering take out. Restaurants not only upcharge you for the meal, but also it is a one and done serving (okay, you may have a little bit of leftovers). When you buy ingredients at the grocery store, you may be spending more in the moment, but save in the long run by having extra to make multiple meals.

Reduce Reuse Recycle

Unless you’re dining in at a restaurant—when you pay for pick-up or delivery, restaurants often put your meal in Styrofoam or cheap plastic containers and include even cheaper plastic utensils. By packing a lunch, you use own reusable containers and utensils to take home and wash. This small act adds up significantly over time and keeps harmful materials out of our landfills, and in turn our oceans!

So, consider taking your lunch to work or school on the 10th—and possibly on a consistent basis! Here are a few delicious lunch ideas for adults and kids.
