Being Kind Matters

There are so many ways to change the world that start in your own backyard. Spreading kindness is by far the easiest. It’s free and usually makes you feel as good as the receiver and can encourage others to follow your lead. Here are some simple ways to change someone’s life for the better, while strengthening your community.

  1. Do you have an elderly neighbor? They often have a difficult time doing the basics. Let them know you would be happy to help them with anything they might need from mailing a letter, to grocery shopping, and assisting with yard work. This small act of kindness can have a big impact.
  2. Next time you’re grabbing a latte, pay for the person behind you. This may cost you a few dollars, but it will make that coffee drinker’s day, and might encourage them to pay it forward.
  3. Say thanks to those in your community that make it your home. Give a hello and a random thanks to the mail person, the local grocery store owner, the librarian, police and firefighters. These are special people that contribute to your community. Letting them know that what they do matters to you, will matter to them.
  4. When you do your spring cleaning, never throw out what you don’t want – donate it! There are a number of places happy to receive your generous donations, including the local animal shelter who are always appreciative of blankets and towels.
  5. Say hi and smile to anyone and everyone in your world. This fosters a sense of community and it’s amazing how much a smile and a hello can change someone’s day from blah to rah!

There are limitless ways to be kind. Make it a priority in your family and part of your everyday life and watch it transform not only your world, but you.
