For some, being a leader just comes naturally. That’s the case with 18 year old Carlos Nogueira. As Captain of his high school football team, Carlos exercises his leadership skills not only at every game and practice, but off the field as well. Each day, Carlos arrives at school early to mentor younger student-athletes in the school’s weight room. He also participates in Unified Sports alongside students with various disabilities, making sure each participant enjoys the game and leaves knowing that they’ve gained a friend. On top of athletics, Carlos is an active peer mentor who helps new students adjust to life at Portsmouth High School as smoothly as possible.
“Carlos is a wonderful kid,” said one of Carlos’ teachers. “He is one of the hardest workers I have ever met and is one of the most trustworthy students I have ever had the pleasure of working with here at Portsmouth High School.”
Because of his dedication to his peers, Carlos was chosen as a 2019 Northeast Credit Union Nice Catch winner. We applaud his leadership skills!
